Winter
Screaming northers break out
of the Caribbean when I high pressure builds on the North American continent.
Spring
High NW winds on the Baja coast.
Othewise calm further south.
Summer
Calm on Baja and south. Chubasco's(SW
traveling Thunderstorms) in central Mexico.
Fall
Calm off Baja, hot south. Hurricanes.
Special: Gulf of Tehuantepec,
Gulf of Papagayo.
Are 2 very dangerous places.
Offshore winds crossing the narrow neck of Central America can blow up
to 500 miles from shore. With wind speeds to 50 knots.
These winds are worst during
the winter. But any time of year is possible. They can last for days and
the calms are often shorter.
Hurricanes
This area has hurricanes
from June to November, from Southern Mexico to Central. Rarely south of
Mexico, but sometimes.
